REPORT: DAN SILKSTONE

AT THE Fishermans Bend factory of Boeing subsidiary Hawker de Havilland workers Boi Hugnh, left, Joe Xeren and Serge Fornito put the finishing touches to a rudder for a Boeing 777. The Melbourne factory has been producing parts for the aircraft since 1990 but was steering a new course yesterday. The 10-metre-long, carbon fibre rudder is the first of eight destined for Air New Zealand 777s. It will be shipped to Seattle where the eight planes are being assembled before they are flown to New Zealand.
