BEN Martin, the 19-year-old inaugural Newcastle Police and Community Youth Club young writer in residence, is putting finishing touches to a 45-minute play he has developed under the program.

Birthday Bash looks at under-age drinking and associated violence.

A production is planned for December, with Timothy Blundell as director, and auditions will be held this Saturday, from 1pm to 3pm, at the Newcastle PCYC in Young Road, Broadmeadow.

The characters include five males aged from 16 to 60 (three are under 20) and a woman aged 25 to 50.

To learn the audition requirements and book an audition time ring Ben Martin on 0427 805 063.

People auditioning will be required to deliver a prepared piece as well as do a cold read of dialogue from Birthday Bash.

The Civic Playhouse is a possible venue for the play.
