WITH six days before the start of this year's HSC exams, Chester Brewer is putting the finishing touches to a year of hard work he hopes will be the foundation for his new life in Australia.
The 21-year-old, who arrived in Australia from Liberia last year, is one of four African refugees who have been studying for their HSC at Hunter TAFE. Mr Brewer, of Lambton, who attended school in Liberia, said he hoped the HSC qualification would help him build a career. "I haven't decided what I want to do yet. Anything would be good," Mr Brewer, who works at a car wash, said. His subjects include English, general maths, general science and geography. Like 7000 other Hunter HSC candidates, Mr Brewer said he planned to spend the next week reviewing the year's work before the exams begin next Thursday. Matthew Kelly
